Site Design

Site design in an fascinating endeavor. There is a lot of discussion with my client before I start designing anything. What does my client want to acheive with the website? Is it to distribute information? Is it to augment sales alongside the "brick and mortar" storefront? Is it to introduce themselves to prospective clients? Most of all, are such goals realistic?

Since websites are as flexible as sand in the tide, it is imperative that the client know the answer to, "I will know my website is smash success when it has done X for me and my organization."

The sites below are examples of websites that I have designed entirely. From the site's navigation and information architecture, to the look-and-feel, to HTML production coding.

These sites are only a sampling of the projects I have completed.

Mitchell Friedman

Mitchell Friedman's website was great fun to do. Mitchell is a public relations consultant who specializes in PR on the Internet. He is a wonderful public speaker. In addition to his consultancy, he also teaches in several continuing education universities and colleges.

Mitchell's goals were to establish his website as a clearinghouse for information about his background and experience, as well as testimonials from happy customers, of whom there are many! A second use has been as a distribution point for students to download syllabi for his courses. Lastly, Mitchell made his articles on Public Relations available to the public relations community for download as simple text files.

Mitchell and I went through several iterations before getting the site just right. For a little DHTML pizzaz we opted for utilizing an invisble frame for the main content within the browser. To gain the access to the content, users scroll by hovering over "up" or "down" graphics (Much like my site).

The Roehl Law Firm

Jerry Roehl, the founder of the Roehl Law Firm, is a rare breed of personal injury attorney. He has represented plaintiffs that have suffered traumatic injury. He fights their corner. And he wins! As his site states: "In a personal injury case, he set the record for the largest jury verdict ever in New Mexico when his clients were awarded over $12,000,000 in 1992." I must admit that doing a website for such a veritable lawyer was a bit daunting, but he was quite happy with the results. And I could rest easy.

The purpose of the website is to allow prospective recruits to learn something about the Roehl firm and to send resumes through a simple web mailform located there.

The website's text was furnished by his office, so my main job was to create a simple webpage template and to divide the content into sections. His main concern was to have a site that was not flashy. After designing a few templates, Mr. Roehl picked his favorite, which happens to coordinate with his favorite tie! ;) In no time the site was live.
